Botulinum toxin type A, commonly known as Botox®, Xeomin®, or Dysport®, is a crucial part of comprehensive facial treatments. It achieves myorelaxation or partial paralysis of facial mimic muscles, preventing the formation of expression lines on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and crow’s feet. It can also partially correct existing lines, resulting in a more harmonious, symmetrical, and slender appearance.
It is the quintessential non-surgical procedure in aesthetic medicine, with the only disadvantage being the frequency with which it must be applied, on average every 4 to 5 months. Prophylactically, it prevents static wrinkles; when these are already present, it reduces them and partially or completely eliminates dynamic wrinkles, depending on the case, the patient’s desires, and gender.
