It is a procedure that alters the shape of the ear and its position in relation to the head, aiming to make them less visible or less prominent. This procedure is recommended for individuals over 6 – 7 years of age and typically lasts approximately 2 hours in the operating room.
In young children, absorbable sutures are used, which the body naturally dissolves over time. In adults, non-absorbable sutures are preferred and are removed 7 days after the procedure. There are various techniques, with or without an incision behind the ear, both of which have shown excellent long-term results.
The bandage placed on the ears must be kept on all day and during sleep for the first 7 days. After that, it should be worn only during sleep for an additional 15 days to prevent the ear from bending and affecting the final result.
